Overview
Yahalathenna Waterfall, also known as Yahalatenna or Yahala Thenna Waterfall, is a lesser-known cascade located near Walhaputenna in the Haldummulla area of the Badulla District. Standing at approximately 90 feet (about 27 metres) in height, this waterfall offers a quieter and more intimate experience compared to the nearby Bambarakanda Waterfall.
Hidden among lush greenery and rocky terrain, Yahalathenna flows into natural pools at its base. The calm surroundings, gentle water flow, and forest setting make it ideal for visitors seeking peaceful nature experiences and cinematic scenery away from tourist crowds.
The waterfall is located approximately 2.6 km from the Bambarakanda ticket counter. A forest footpath leads to the site, and as trails are not clearly marked in some sections, seeking guidance from local residents is recommended.
Because of its secluded setting and soft cascading flow, Yahalathenna Waterfall is especially appealing for nature lovers and travel photographers.
