Overview

James Taylor's Seat is a historic stone viewpoint located within Loolkandura Estate in Deltota, Kandy District. This estate is recognized as the first commercial tea plantation in Sri Lanka.

In the 1860s, Scottish planter James Taylor pioneered tea cultivation here after the collapse of the coffee industry. His experimental tea fields at Loolkandura eventually led to the global recognition of "Ceylon Tea."

The stone bench known as Taylor's Seat offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and tea plantations. Visitors can also explore nearby historic remnants, including the well used by James Taylor, the remains of his log cabin chimney, and Field No. 7 - the first tea plot planted on the estate.

Access to the estate is via a narrow road from Deltota, and a short walk leads to the viewpoint area.
