Overview

Kolapathana Waterfall is a 70-metre high waterfall located in the ancient village of Mandaramnuwara in the Nuwara Eliya District. Situated at an elevation of around 1250 metres above sea level at the foot of Pidurutalagala Mountain, the waterfall lies within the cool and misty Hanguranketha region.

Kolapathana Ella is not a single waterfall but a cluster of cascades flowing one below another. Only the lowest section is officially known as Kolapathana Ella; however, from a distance the entire cluster appears as one dramatic waterfall descending through lush greenery.

Mandaramnuwara itself is known for its peaceful rural atmosphere, tea estates, and mountain scenery. The waterfall blends beautifully with the surrounding highland landscape, especially after rainfall when the water volume increases significantly.

Because of its easy accessibility and marked pathways, Kolapathana Waterfall has become a popular attraction for both local and foreign visitors exploring the Mandaramnuwara area.
