Getting There
The classic approach is by train from Kandy (4-5 hours) or Nuwara Eliya (2 hours), passing through Haputale and the Nine Arches Bridge. Book observation car seats at least two weeks ahead via the Sri Lanka Railways website - they sell out fast. Alternatively, intercity buses connect Ella to Colombo (6 hours), Badulla (40 minutes), and Haputale (1 hour). By road, Ella is 220 km from Colombo via the A4/B48.
