Overview

The Great World’s End is the most iconic viewpoint in Sri Lanka, located within Horton Plains National Park at an elevation above 2,100 meters. The cliff drops almost vertically for approximately 1,200 meters (4,000 ft), creating one of the most dramatic escarpments in Asia.

On clear mornings, visitors can see vast landscapes stretching across tea plantations, forests, villages, and even the distant southern coastline.

The viewpoint is reached via the Horton Plains circular trail, a 9.4 km loop that begins and ends at the park entrance. Along the trail, visitors also pass Mini World’s End and Baker’s Falls.

The walk is relatively easy, mostly across open grasslands and patches of cloud forest. However, there are very limited protective barriers at the cliff edge. Strong winds and mist are common, so caution is essential near the precipice.

A full visit, including the hike, typically takes 3–4 hours.
